Evangelism
Before hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf coast on August 29th, the news media, weather analysts and hurricane experts informed the nation of the dangers and terror hurricane Katrina could and most likely would bring to the Louisiana area. The public was warned over and over again as to how important is would be for the people of the surrounding areas to evacuate. Everyone was told how Katrina had the ability to rip through the Louisiana area and how she could literally wipe out everything in her path.
Many people talked about how they had been through hurricanes before and how everything they had was in their homes or in the area and therefore they were not willing to leave. The night before Katrina came, some people were sitting in the bars, others were partying, and the nature of the conversation was often excuses and reasons - some valid, some not so valid - why they could not or would not leave. "I don't have a car," or "This is my home and I'm not leaving," or "I do not have money to pay for a hotel," and the list went on and on. It seems many people simply did not believe she would actually come and others felt it just would not be as bad as the media was saying. After all, she could turn at the last minute and spare the city.
There were thousands and thousands of people who did heed to the warnings, and they packed their bags, they gathered their children, they left their homes and when the restraints around the city gave way to Hurricane Katrina, those thousands who did listen were very, very grateful that they took heed and got out. Those who chose to stay were sitting on their roof tops crying out for someone to help them and were very, very sorry they chose the careless way.
Evangelism is about reaching and telling and warning the world that Jesus is coming and we must get our house in order. It was not a sure thing that Katrina would bring all the damage that was predicted but it is a sure thing that Jesus Christ will come and he will bring with Him judgment. It is a sure thing that everyone one of us will die and will be judged by a God who is reaching out at this time through His people to warn people of His soon return.
The First Apostolic Church of Dublin has a mission to reach as many people in the surrounding area as possible. We love people and we want all people everywhere to experience the greatest joy that will ever come to a person this side of Heaven.
There is no greater joy than to ask forgiveness of the wrong a person has done and be so forgiven that it is actually wiped away. There is no greater deed that a person can do than to take on the name of Jesus Christ though baptism and know they have a clean slate in the eyes of the Almighty God, who will one day be the final judge. There is no greater love a person can experience than to be filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost and to know they are ready to meet the Lord, no matter whether it be through death or His very returning.
The First Apostolic Church loves to have an opportunity to reach out to the city of Dublin and the surrounding area. If you would like to know more about what we are about, we invite you to contact the church and set up a free Home Bible Study in your home and at your convenience. "Exploring God's Word" is a Bible study that will take you from Genesis through Revelation, the first and last books of the Bible, and it will introduce you to a loving Savior who so desires that you come to him and find real life. This Bible Study contains beautiful, colorful charts that will help the Bible come alive in your home as one of our Holy Ghost filled servants of the Lord teaches each lesson.
There are many other ministries within the church that will help you find your direction in God. Like those who waited out Katrina we encourage you to take advantage of a Bible study and a church service so you can feel His love in a special way.
